Adventure Learning; Experiential Therapy; Discovery Learning; these are all phrases that describe our approach in helping residents grow. One of the resources we use to accomplish this is our Challenge Course (Ropes Course). The elements of the course help Boles Children's Home residents not only learn to work with others but also learn about themselves. They are able to gain confidence and develop the skills necessary to be successful in life.

CHALLENGE BY CHOICE

The concept of “Challenge By Choice” is to keep all participants emotionally and physically safe. Each person is encouraged to challenge themselves while still having the power to chose their level of participation.

The Elements of a Course
The course consists of a series of individual and group challenges. These challenges promote teamwork and individual growth. All activities on the Challenge Course are lead by trained facilitators.

Icebreakers/Games - Simple yet fun activities that allow the group to get warmed up and ready.
Initiatives - Activities that introduce the group to working together and being successful.
Low Elements - Challenges that take place anywhere from 1 to 6 feet off the ground. The group is challenged to work together, keeping each other safe while accomplishing a common goal.
High Elements - Challenges that take place anywhere from 12 to 45 feet off the ground. The participant is securely tied to a trained facilitator with safety harnesses, rope, and hardware. The individual is challenged to his or her own personal goal within the element.

The Outcome of a Course
Teamwork, Communication, Problem Solving, Cooperation, Confidence, Trust
