These are designed to encourage, but never force, participants to attempt potentially difficult and/or frightening challenges in an atmosphere of support and care. Proper instructions sequence the activities in a manner that promotes the development of self-confidence, group trust and problem solving. Activities:I. Ropes/Challenge CourseThe course consists of a series of individual and group physical challenges. These challenges require a combination of teamwork skills and individual commitment. Trained facilitators lead the group through games, initiatives and challenges that develop group cohesion, communication and intimacy. Our large course is used daily for our cottages and residents. We also offer facilitation to other groups according to their needs. To schedule a visiting group on the course, contact the coordinator at (903) 883-2088. II. TrekThis is a summer trip to Colorado or New Mexico for the residents and required staff of Boles Children's Home. Participants experience camping, mountain climbing, whitewater rafting and other adventure activities. The goals for the trip include relationship and spiritual development amongst staff and children. III. Campus ActivitiesGames, arts and crafts, and a wide range of activities for small and large groups, indoors and outdoors, on and off the campus, are a part of daily life. Church and civic organization groups, adult and youth, frequently visit the campus adding to the diversity of activities and to opportunities for interaction with the community. College age interns assist in the organization and supervision of summer activities. Devotionals are conducted throughout the year. |
